Inaugural Show: World Printmaking One June 2013, Mile End Art Pavilion, London

PRISM presented fine art printmaking by seven Japanese artists from the Yanagisawa Gallery of Japan and seven UK-based artists of the Printworks group of London side-by-side and without comment for our inaugural show.

Introduction by Toshiaki Yanagisawa for his artists at the PRISM London exhibition 2013

“With regard to Japanese prints, Ukiyo-e woodblock prints have been well known in the West. Modern Japanese prints are, in contrast, hardly known. Since the Japanese modern era started, the world of prints, until then only woodblock prints, introduced a variety of printing techniques such as etchings and lithographs from the West. Today, the main fine arts universities in Japan have print departments/courses which have produced many brilliant print artists. It is an honour and of great significance that these artists are given an opportunity to show their works in London, England, where there is a long history of print making.”

Toshiaki Yanagisawa, Yanagisawa Gallery
